Recharge and Renew at Spavia

Before becoming a business owner, Dawn Ledin, owner of Spavia Day Spa, spent her career working for others. While she liked the job and the people that she worked with over the last 10 years, she was starting to burn out from the work and the business travel. It was time to do something different. But, what could that be?

As she considered her options (even NOT working - an idea quickly squelched), she got inspried by her love of travel, especially to warm weather places. Dawn makes a point to spend time at a resort and go to spas when she's traveling for fun.

After one trip, she realized that there wasn't a place in Ankeny where you could go relax and get that spa resort experience - a place where you could rejuvenate through relaxation and receive body treatments, beauty services, massage and skincare.

She and her husband grewup in Ankeny. They raised their kids in Ankeny. And she knew that if she was going to open up a spa the only place she'd do it would be The District at Prairie Trail in Ankeny.

The dream for her hometown became a reality when Spavia opened in June 2017

Making People Feel Special 

Spavia offers a retreat where you can relax, escape and thrive. They provide services from more than 20 professional therapists and estheticians that cover everything body and face. Services include massage to eyelash extensions to wax treatments to spray tans and much more for men and women. With a special retreat room, you can take time for yourself and escape from cell phones and responsibilities. You can select the treatments that best serve you on any given day to recharge and refocus.  

Dawn never takes her guests for granted and aims to make Spavia the best experience it can be. "I'm a very hands-on owner. I want to make this spa great and really care how we treat our guests."

"We focus on an exceptional, seamless experience," she says. She coaches her team that it's the extra touches that make Spavia a place that people feel special and cared for. She encourages them to take note of things happening in their guests' lives whether someone is getting ready for surgery or it's their birthday.

"Shortly after I first opened, a lady came in who was having a really bad day with whatever was going on in her life," she remembers. "Once she came out from her treatment, she was a completely different person. She told us that when she went to wait for her specialist, she noticed the canvas in the women's changing area that said, 'You're beautiful' and it made her start crying, but also made her feel so much better."

"That story right there is why I'm doing this," Dawn says. 

Dawn found the recharge she craved when she became a business owner. The corporate world provided her with a solid foundation but every day as a business owner presents new and interesting challenges she wouldn't miss.
